Understanding Periodontal Disease and Its Treatment

Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is a common problem that affects the gums and bones that support your teeth. It starts with gingivitis, a mild swelling of the gums. If it gets worse, it can turn into periodontitis, a dangerous infection that can cause you to lose your teeth if you don’t treat it.

Signs You May Need Periodontal Treatment

  • Red, swelling, or bleeding gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Gum recession (teeth appearing longer)
  • Loose teeth or shifting bite
  • Pain while chewing
The earlier gum disease is treated, the better the outcome. Our dental team specializes in effective periodontal care to restore and maintain your gum health.

Why Periodontal Health Matters

Ignoring gum disease can lead to serious oral health issues and even affect your general well-being. Research has linked periodontal disease to conditions such as:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes complications
  • Respiratory infections
  • Pregnancy risks

By addressing gum disease early, you protect both your smile and overall health.

The staff are very nice people. Jas did my cleaning and she was super great, fast, knowledgeable, informative and kind. She also went above and beyond and asked another staff member to watch my 3 month old for us to continue my appointment... I recommend this dental office over any other I've been too...

Is periodontal treatment painful?

Most treatments, like scaling and root planing, cause minimal discomfort. We use gentle techniques and anesthesia if needed to ensure comfort.

Will my gums heal completely after treatment?

How often should I get periodontal maintenance?

Patients with gum disease should visit every 3–4 months for maintenance cleanings to prevent reinfection.
