What Is Sedation Dentistry? How It Helps You Stay Relaxed

Sedation dentistry helps patients relax and stay comfortable during dental procedures. It is ideal for those who:

  • Have dental anxiety or fear
  • Need extensive dental work
  • Have a strong gag reflex
  • Struggle to sit still for long procedures
  • Experience sensitivity to pain

Sedation is safe and customized to your needs. At Oasis Smile Dental, we provide multiple sedation options to ensure a smooth, comfortable experience.

Sedation Options at Oasis Smile Dental: Choose the Right One for You

Many patients choose sedation dentistry for a pain-free experience. We, at Oasis Smile Dental, offer different types of sedation based on your level of anxiety and the procedure required:

  1. Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): A mild sedative that eases anxiety while keeping you awake. It wears off quickly, so you can drive home safely.
  2. Oral Sedation: Take a prescribed pill before the procedure. You’ll feel drowsy but stay responsive. A driver is needed after treatment.
  3. IV sedation: This injection works quickly to help you relax deeply during long or complex treatments. You may feel drowsy, remember little of the procedure, and need someone to drive you home.

Why Patients Choose Sedation Dentistry in NE Calgary

Sedation dentistry is not just for anxiety—it offers multiple benefits, including:

  • Pain-Free Treatment—Minimizes discomfort.
  • Faster Procedures—Shortens appointment time.
  • Reduces Dental Anxiety—Helps nervous patients feel at ease.
  • Prevents Gag Reflex—Ideal for sensitive patients.

I have been to Oasis Dental twice now. Everyone is so kind and the hygienists and dentists are very gentle and supportive. The receptionists have been great dealing with insurance and breaking all the costs down for you and offering alternatives. I have always been quite anxious going to the dentist and I have had nothing but great experiences so far.
